Lawyers allege systemic impunity after beating filmed at police station in Georgia 14.06.2026

Georgian watchdog groups, the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) and Transparency International Georgia (TI), have decried what they allege is systemic police violence and impunity, following the broadcast of footage on June 12 by TV Pirveli. The video allegedly shows several police officers brutally beating a detainee inside a police station. While the Interior Ministry confirmed the incident occurred in Kobuleti in the summer of 2022 and that three officers were arrested in February, GYLA and TI maintain these events are indicative of a broader pattern of state-sanctioned abuse, potentially used for intimidation and blackmail, and have become a "hallmark of the regime" and "part of state policy."
