Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho," the 59-year-old leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), was killed on Sunday, February 22, during a military operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco. He was considered the last of Mexico's major drug lords, with the United States offering up to $15 million for his capture. El Mencho was injured during the operation and died while being transferred to Mexico City. The CJNG, founded by Oseguera in 2009, has been designated a terrorist organization by the U.S. for its involvement in trafficking cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and fentanyl. The operation led to armed individuals blocking roads in Jalisco with burned vehicles in apparent retaliation.
