Décimé par la guerre à Gaza, le Hamas en passe de nommer un nouveau chefle 22 février 2026 22.02.2026

The Palestinian organization Hamas is nearing the selection of a new leader following internal elections held across Gaza, the West Bank, and among its international members. This process aims to renew the group's legitimacy and fill leadership vacancies after the successive elimination of key figures like Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinouar during the ongoing war with Israel, which began on October 7, 2023. Two prominent candidates are vying for the position: Khaled Mechaal, the former political bureau chief and current head of the diaspora office, and Khalil al-Hayya, who has been instrumental in negotiations with Israel. The new leader, expected to be announced during Ramadan, will serve for a transitional one-year period, as Hamas navigates its post-war strategy and its role in Gaza, where it has resumed some daily control.
