Lebanon watches, Israel flags ‘mistrust’: All eyes on US-Iran talks in Pakistan 09.04.2026

Anticipated US-Iran talks in Islamabad on Friday, April 10, are overshadowed by uncertainty regarding Lebanon's inclusion in a recently agreed-upon ceasefire. While Pakistan's initial statement included Lebanon, both the US and Israel have denied this, with Israel reiterating its goal to dismantle Hezbollah. Lebanon, experiencing severe Israeli attacks resulting in over 1,500 deaths since March 2, is seeking confirmation of its inclusion in the truce. Israeli envoy Reuven Azar expressed mistrust in Pakistan as a mediator, stating Tel Aviv will rely on American counterparts. Iran has threatened to disrupt the ceasefire and block the Strait of Hormuz if attacks on Lebanon persist, though it previously intervened to prevent a resumption of attacks after Pakistani mediation.
