"Let him kneel in the open field": Deputy Speaker of the Sejm appeals to Budanov 07.07.2026

Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Piotr Zgorzelski sharply commented on Kyrylo Budanov's words regarding the possible escalation surrounding the anniversary of the Volhynia massacre. The PSL politician called on the head of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's office to reflect on the nature of Polish commemorations, emphasizing that prayers and masses are not a provocation, but an expression of memory for nearly 150,000 victims. Zgorzelski demands that Ukraine recognize these events as genocide and conduct systematic exhumations. He announced that Poland should set conditions regarding historical policy during talks on Ukraine's integration into the European Union. Additionally, the deputy speaker criticized PiS for hypocrisy regarding the transfer of Patriot missiles, citing statements by Mariusz Błaszczak. He emphasized that supporting Ukraine is in Poland's national interest, but historical and security issues must be handled in a proper and distinct manner.
