Leur maison encerclée par les eaux de la Loire en crue, ces habitants trouvent refuge dans leur camping-car 24.02.2026

Didier and Liliane Maillard, aged 67, of Vair-sur-Loire, near Ancenis in Loire-Atlantique, have been living in their converted camper van for a week to avoid risking rescue services. Their home, located in the Belle-Croix area of Anetz, was surrounded by the rising waters of the Loire River. The couple, experienced with nomadic living, chose their camper van over hotel accommodations or staying with friends, citing a desire not to inconvenience others and their self-sufficiency with amenities like a kitchen, toilet, and shower. They decided to evacuate due to concerns about sanitary issues, including wastewater backup, and the escalating water levels, which had already submerged their garage by 1.50 meters. Didier Maillard's past experience as a gendarme during floods in 1995 influenced their decision to seek a preventive evacuation, prioritizing the safety of emergency responders. They are now awaiting the river's recession, which is expected to take several days, before returning to their home.
