The Minister of Industry and Commerce has announced an action plan to support the distribution of national rice production, following mobilization by rice farmers facing marketing difficulties. Through the Market Regulation Agency and the Directorate of Internal Trade, the State has proceeded with the purchase of 9,000 tons of white rice at 350 FCFA per kilo by importers, for a total amount of 3.15 billion CFA francs. Furthermore, authorities have ordered a freeze on imports of bananas, onions, and potatoes, and have produced an institutional film regarding the quality of local rice. A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 11, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the ministry headquarters, with representatives from the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministries of Finance and Agriculture, for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with partner traders. This protocol will formalize the quantities to be purchased, distribution methods, and pricing, based on a retail price of 280 FCFA/kg with a 50 FCFA subsidy in favor of rice farmers. Finally, a follow-up tour and a Regional Development Committee are announced for late July 2026.
