In Guérande, Loire-Atlantique, a new economic model for parking payment has been implemented, resulting in higher costs for motorists who use smartphone applications. Previously free, services like Paybyphone and Easypark now charge users additional fees. Paybyphone imposes a 12.5% service fee (with a minimum of €0.15) on top of the parking price, while Easypark has been charging 15% since June 2025. These surcharges do not apply to free parking tickets or payments made directly at parking meters. The city of Guérande receives no additional revenue from these fees; they are solely collected by the service providers. This change, voted on by the municipal council on February 11, 2026, has drawn criticism from opposition groups who are advocating for clearer information to be provided to drivers.
