Loke: Experienced military drivers can obtain Class E licences at no cost 04.06.2026

Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced a new initiative allowing experienced military drivers, including future retirees and veterans participating in the Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (Perhebat) transition programme, to obtain a Class E civilian driving licence free of charge. This collaboration between the Transport and Defence Ministries simplifies the conversion process for military driving licence holders, who previously faced complex procedures and significant costs, typically ranging from RM4,000 to RM5,000, to obtain a civilian equivalent. The move aims to leverage the extensive experience of military personnel in operating heavy vehicles, recognizing their skills upon retirement when their military licences are no longer valid in the civilian sector. Loke also highlighted military retirees as ideal candidates for the growing aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) sector due to their existing technical expertise.
