Major changes could be coming to Canada's immigration programs 06.05.2026

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has outlined potential significant changes to its Express Entry immigration programs in its 2026-2028 Forward Regulatory Plan. The agency proposes to repeal the existing Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades Program, replacing them with a new federal high-skilled immigration class. This new class aims to streamline eligibility requirements, creating a more diverse pool of international talent to meet labor market needs and simplify the immigration process for clients and employers. Consultations with partners, stakeholders, and the public are anticipated in Spring 2026. These potential amendments follow recent announcements of new Express Entry immigration categories for specific occupations.
