Major changes regarding salaries are coming: "It has been an absolute abuse of the system until now"... 04.07.2026

The new European directive on pay transparency brings significant changes to the Croatian labor market, aiming to achieve equality between men and women through the principle of equal pay for equal work. Although the deadline for implementation into law passed at the beginning of June, Croatia is only now preparing a draft that should enter the procedure within the next two to three weeks. The new rules will allow workers to request information regarding salary ranges and job evaluation methods, while employers will be required to report on income disparities. Trade unions emphasize that this will eliminate abuses within the system, whereas entrepreneurs warn of administrative burdens and are calling for the application of warning principles instead of fines. The new provisions, which also include digital reporting for companies with more than one hundred employees, are expected to take effect during the autumn period.
