Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has called for an independent investigation by the United Nations into the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers from Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota communities on May 14. In a statewide broadcast on Monday in Ibadan, shortly after receiving 44 rescued children and teachers, Makinde urged international human rights and accountability mechanisms to probe the incident. He described the circumstances of the abduction as "sufficiently grave and unusual," emphasizing that such scrutiny is necessary to reinforce public confidence and establish the truth.
