'Making our own choices': EU announces blueprint for technology sovereignty 03.06.2026

The European Commission has revealed a technology sovereignty strategy focused on achieving self-reliance in artificial intelligence and significantly increasing data center capacity to 65 gigawatts within ten years. This initiative aims to attract €200 billion in private investment by 2036, complemented by €100 billion for Cloud, AI, and gigafactory projects. A key component involves mandating the use of EU-manufactured software and hardware for critical public contracts, especially in defense, to ensure European control over data and services. Furthermore, the bloc intends to double its global semiconductor market share to 20% by 2030, a goal estimated to cost €120 billion, underscoring the necessity of technological independence for essential services.
