On August 20, 2026, Mok Siaw Yong, a 35-year-old Malaysian fishmonger, was sentenced to 12 weeks' jail in Singapore for voluntarily causing hurt to a 52-year-old Singaporean man. The incident occurred on January 17, 2025, at about 1:17pm at a wet market in Limbang Shopping Centre, Choa Chu Kang, where Mok worked. The victim, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia by the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), approached Mok's stall and spoke to his co-workers. Irritated by the man's presence, Mok asked him to leave, but the victim refused. Without warning, Mok punched the victim's face at least six times in the left eye and landed another punch on his head while dragging him backwards. The assault only stopped when other vendors intervened, and the entire ordeal was captured on surveillance footage.
