Electricity demand reaches between 680MW and 700MW in the past month 25.08.2026

Enemalta has reported that peak electricity demand has remained consistently high at between 680MW and 700MW over the past month, marking a significant shift in consumption patterns. Unlike previous summers when demand peaked between noon and 3pm and again around 7pm, this summer has seen demand reaching high levels from midday and staying elevated until late evening, without the typical easing between 3pm and 7pm. This trend coincides with an approaching heatwave, as the Malta Meteorological Office issued an orange warning for the last week of meteorological summer. Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach 34°C on Monday and Tuesday, rising to 36-37°C from Wednesday through Sunday, with the 'feels like' temperature exceeding 40°C.
