‘Scream all you want, no one will hear you’: Woman alleges rape, threats and stalking for months 09.04.2026

Joseph Zahra, 43, is facing 13 charges, including rape and non-consensual sexual acts, stemming from allegations by an Ethiopian woman residing at the Ħal Far Open Centre. The woman reported to Birżebbuġa Police Station on March 18 that the alleged rape occurred approximately seven months prior, after she refused Zahra's advances at a bus stop and was subsequently taken to his garage. For months, Zahra allegedly stalked and harassed her, making threats and preventing her from seeking help due to fear and a language barrier. Zahra denies the allegations, claiming the woman stole €1,000 from him. The court, presided over by Magistrate Ann-Marie Thake, heard testimony from police inspectors and is scheduled to continue proceedings on March 21.
