Man allegedly drowns at earthquake-formed dam in Davao Occidental 25.06.2026

A man allegedly drowned on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, while swimming in a newly formed artificial dam in Barangay San Isidro, Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental. Mayor Jason John Joyce reported that the victim was with a relative drinking near the lake, which was created by earthquake-induced landslides. The man went swimming and diving but never resurfaced; his body was later found in the lake. The June 8, 2026 earthquake caused landslides that blocked the natural waterway from an upstream river, trapping water and submerging several houses in Barangay San Isidro. The local government had previously warned residents of the dangers and advised evacuation.
