Grant, born in London, is accused of directing al-Shabab's operations, potentially as a platoon commander, and attending a commando training camp in Kismayu, southern Somalia. He also faces charges for possessing an AK47 assault rifle for terrorist purposes during battles in Mogadishu and Karan. Al-Shabab, linked to al-Qaeda and IS, has been identified as a persistent threat in Mogadishu, known for high-profile attacks. The case, which requires Attorney General permission to prosecute, was adjourned for seven days, with Grant remanded in custody and his next appearance scheduled for April 16 at Westminster Magistrates Court.
