A 59-year-old man from Wijk en Aalburg has been sentenced by the District Court of The Hague to 2.5 years in prison for the rape of a fourteen-year-old girl in 1990. The crime took place in Bodegraven, where the perpetrator forced the sick girl to go to her mother's bedroom. The case was solved after 36 years thanks to a DNA match from an English database, despite objections from the defense regarding the legality of this evidence. The man was also sentenced for the possession of a pistol and a prohibited spring-loaded gun. The court ruled that the man is the perpetrator and imposed a lower sentence than the requested four years due to the legislation in effect at the time. The victim is to receive compensation of over 680 euros.
