Manipur ethnic violence audio recordings manipulated, Centre tells Supreme Court 07.08.2026

The central government told the Supreme Court on Friday that audio recordings purportedly connecting former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh to the state's ethnic violence were manipulated, containing "multiple alterations." The submission was made by the Centre's counsel before a bench of justices Sanjay Kumar and Sanjeev Sachdeva, who placed a report from the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on record. The counsel argued that the petition should be dismissed with costs, noting that extended audio clips recently provided by the petitioner had 41 alterations, calling them "clearly manipulated."
