Marilyn Monroe at 100 31.05.2026

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles is honoring Marilyn Monroe with an exhibition titled "Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon," opening today. The exhibition features iconic costumes, including the pink dress from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," and explores her enduring legacy and influence. Despite a difficult early life and professional challenges, including a reputation for lateness and extensive preparation time for her roles, Monroe starred in 29 films. Her image continues to be a significant business, managed by Authentic Brands Group, and maintains a strong social media presence, particularly among younger demographics. Financial records reveal she was more financially secure than rumored, disproving claims of borrowing for a Brentwood house. Monroe's final interview in Life magazine is featured in a new book, "Marilyn: The Lost Photos, The Last Interview," published shortly before her death on August 4, 1962, from an apparent drug overdose.
