Market prices are falling, and producers say: "Unfortunately, this year we decided to cut it all back"... 04.07.2026

An abundance of summer fruits and vegetables prevails at the Osijek market and Zagreb's Dolac, resulting in a significant drop in market prices. Producers such as Milica Jakobović and Vladimir Vranješ highlight an exceptionally rich harvest of peaches, cherries, watermelon, and tomatoes, thanks to favorable weather conditions. While customers are satisfied with the lower prices, producers are facing a massive increase in costs for fuel, fertilizer, and labor. Vladimir Vranješ notes that labor costs are so high that they will have to drastically reduce production, even cutting 400 out of 450 trees in order to survive. While the prices of watermelon and cherries have fallen, customers continue to seek even more affordable options, expecting a further drop in prices by the end of July when supply will be at its peak.
