Marleen (52) verhuurt kamer aan studente Helena: ‘Vriendjes zijn niet welkom' 22.02.2026

In response to Rotterdam's declining student housing availability, Marleen and Richard, a couple from Rotterdam-West, are offering a temporary room rental to international female students. Their spacious apartment, with children having moved out, presented an underutilized space, prompting them to become "hospitaverhuurders" (live-in landlords). This arrangement provides them with additional income, a sense of security when they travel, and a way to contribute to the housing shortage. They have received significant interest, with thirty responses within a day of listing their room, and they prioritize international female students seeking short-term accommodation, citing cultural enrichment and a previous tenant's advice regarding household responsibilities. Spanish student Helena, currently completing her bachelor's at Erasmus University, found the €450 monthly rent exceptionally affordable and the living arrangement a welcome solution after struggling to find housing.
