Massive Metro Vancouver oil terminal proposed as endpoint for new Alberta pipeline 04.07.2026

A new proposed oil pipeline, originating in Bruderheim, Alberta, aims to reach a massive export terminal at Roberts Bank in Delta, British Columbia, a project estimated to cost between C$35 billion and C$44 billion. The British Columbia government has agreed to negotiate in good faith on routing and permitting under the Canada-British Columbia Cooperative Prosperity Agreement, in exchange for a significant share of the project's revenues and a commitment to maintain the North Coast tanker ban. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced Trans Mountain Corporation and Pembina Pipeline as partners, stating the route would largely follow the existing Trans Mountain corridor. The Roberts Bank terminal would be substantially larger than existing facilities, capable of accommodating Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) vessels, with a tank farm for approximately 6.5 million barrels of oil. Preliminary construction could start as early as Fall 2027, with major construction anticipated in September 2028 and completion by 2038.
