Matic Osovnikar enthusiastic about new wave: No regrets about losing my record 05.07.2026

Legendary Slovenian sprinter Matic Osovnikar expressed his enthusiasm in an interview regarding a new wave of young athletes who have surpassed his historic results. The young Styrian, Anej Čurin Prapotnik, broke Osovnikar's 100-meter record, which had stood since 2007, with a time of 10.13 seconds in Maribor. Osovnikar, who became a successful dentist after his athletic career, emphasizes that he has no regrets about losing the record, believing that the true value of records lies in them being challenged. In the past, Osovnikar finished seventh at the World Championships in Osaka and held national records in numerous sprinting disciplines. Now, young athletes like Čurin Prapotnik are becoming the new faces of Slovenian sprinting, a development that Osovnikar views as a positive trend for the sport.
