Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala’s trial set for July 2026 in Johannesburg High Court 07.05.2026

The trial for alleged crime boss Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his five co-accused, including his wife Tsakani Matlala, is scheduled to commence on July 20, 2026, in the Johannesburg High Court. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed its readiness to proceed with the case, which involves 25 charges, including 11 counts of attempted murder stemming from incidents between August 2022 and January 2024. The State alleges the group orchestrated shootings, laundered money, and used fraudulent invoices to conceal illicit funds. Matlala specifically faces charges related to alleged assassination attempts on his former girlfriend and shootings of a taxi boss and a music producer. A pretrial application by Matlala's legal team to compel outstanding particulars is set for June 15, 2026.
