Meeste bushaltes zijn slecht toegankelijk voor mensen met beperking: ‘Dit is een drama’ 24.02.2026

Research reveals that a significant portion of bus stops in the Rijnmond region, specifically only one in four, are fully accessible for individuals with physical or visual impairments. This lack of accessibility poses safety risks, as highlighted by 21-year-old Kim, who relies on her guide dog. Many stops lack essential features like tactile paving, shelters, and clear signage, making them dangerous and difficult to navigate. Nationally, two-thirds of bus stops lack adequate aids for the visually impaired, and half are unsuitable for those with motor disabilities. While some municipalities like Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht and Sliedrecht show better accessibility due to new infrastructure, others, like Molenlanden, have a high percentage of inaccessible stops, often managed by water boards in low-density areas where improvements are deprioritized. This situation contradicts the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which mandates equal access to public transport.
