Mehrere Fußball-Profis prangern Rassismus im Netz an und fordern strafrechtliche Verfolgung 23.02.2026

In February 2026, several Premier League footballers, including Wesley Fofana of Chelsea, Hannibal Mejbri of Burnley, Tolu Arokodare of Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Romaine Mundle of AFC Sunderland, publicly denounced racist abuse received online following recent matches. Fofana shared screenshots of hateful messages, expressing frustration that despite public campaigns against racism, no effective action is taken and perpetrators go unpunished. Chelsea issued a strong statement of support for Fofana and all players subjected to such abuse. The incidents, which occurred after Fofana received a red card against Burnley and Mejbri was also targeted, have prompted clubs like Burnley to report the content to Meta and demand decisive action from Instagram, the Premier League, and law enforcement, including criminal prosecution. These events echo similar high-profile cases, such as the alleged racist insult against Real Madrid's Vinícius Júnior by Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni, which is currently under UEFA investigation.
