Mehrheit der Jugendlichen blickt „nicht optimistisch“ in die Zukunft 24.02.2026

A recent study by the health insurance company Barmer, surveying approximately 2000 German youths aged 14-17 in autumn 2023, reveals a significant decline in optimism regarding the future of Germany and the world. Fifty-six percent of respondents expressed pessimism about Germany's future, a stark contrast to 2021 when 62% were optimistic. Globally, 56% are "rather pessimistic," up from 49% in 2021. Major concerns include wars (63%), climate change (44%), and environmental pollution (43%). Despite these widespread anxieties, an overwhelming 80% of young people remain optimistic about their personal futures, a sentiment that has remained largely constant since 2021, indicating a perceived ability to control and shape their individual paths.
