Viljoens under fire: Mel pledges cooperation as Peet prepares bail bid on 400 charges 05.07.2026

Former celebrity lawyer Peet Viljoen is set to launch a formal bail application this Wednesday at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria, facing 400 charges including fraud, corruption, theft, forgery, and uttering. These charges stem from an alleged R27 million property fraud scheme. His wife, Melanie (Mel) Viljoen, has formally pledged her full cooperation to private investigator Mike Bolhuis and Specialised Security Services (SSS) to resolve ongoing investigations. This follows a massive R71 million trademark infringement judgment in the United States and allegations from local franchisees regarding fraudulent franchise sales. While Mel has issued public apologies for their past conduct, Prosecutor Willem van Zyl has indicated the State will vigorously oppose Peet's bail bid, potentially utilizing the couple's social media posts as evidence during the legal proceedings.
