Meta secures hacked accounts as users claim its AI enabled the hackers 03.06.2026

Meta is addressing a security breach affecting Instagram accounts, where users allege that Meta's AI support chatbot facilitated account takeovers. Numerous social media users reported losing access to their Instagram accounts, with some sharing evidence suggesting the AI chatbot assisted hackers in changing associated email addresses, thereby enabling password resets and account hijacking. Meta has stated the issue is resolved and they are securing compromised accounts, with Communications Director Andy Stone confirming this on June 1. While the company downplayed the lapse, which occurred amid significant layoffs, reports indicate several high-profile accounts, potentially including one linked to Barack Obama's White House, were also affected. Security experts noted that even accounts with multi-factor authentication might not have been immune.
