Meta's AI catch-up effort gets a new look 07.07.2026

Meta has announced the launch of Muse Image, its first picture-generating model developed within the Meta Superintelligence Lab. This model is designed to power over 30 new Instagram filters and will eventually integrate into WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger. Additionally, advertisers can utilize the model via the Advantage+ tool. While Muse Image performs strongly against competitors like Google's Nano Banana 2, it currently trails ChatGPT's image generator. Meta also previewed Muse Video, a forthcoming movie-generating model. This release comes amid internal challenges, including engineer reassignment and privacy concerns regarding training data. The company aims to close the gap with rivals like OpenAI and Google by leveraging its massive distribution and computing resources. Meta is also working toward releasing an open model based on Spark and a more powerful successor to the Spark language model later this year.
