Mexique : Après la mort de son chef « El Mencho », le cartel Jalisco veut « afficher sa puissance » 23.02.2026

Mexico is experiencing a surge in violence following the military-backed killing of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias "El Mencho," the leader of the powerful Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel. The operation, supported by the United States, resulted in the death of one of Mexico's most significant drug lords. In retaliation, cartel members have initiated a wave of terror across multiple states, resulting in the deaths of at least 25 members of the national guard, a security agent, and a prosecutor's office official. The state of Jalisco, where El Mencho was killed, has seen widespread closures of businesses and schools, with neighboring states also affected by blocked roads, burned vehicles, and canceled flights. This violence is seen as a demonstration of the cartel's power and internal struggles for leadership after the elimination of its top figure.
