Mexique : Qui était « El Mencho », baron de la drogue tué lors d’une opération militaire ? 23.02.2026

Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho," the 59-year-old founder of the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG), was killed during a Mexican military operation supported by the United States. Considered the last of Mexico's major drug lords following the arrests of "El Chapo" Guzman and "Mayo" Zambada, El Mencho established the CJNG in 2009 in Jalisco after leaving the cartel del Milenio. The CJNG, described as the third most dangerous criminal organization globally, became the most powerful in Mexico due to its extreme violence, including a 2011 massacre of 35 individuals in Veracruz. The cartel's operations expanded internationally, and the U.S. Department of State designated it a terrorist organization in 2025, citing its transnational nature and involvement in drug and arms trafficking, extortion, and migrant smuggling. El Mencho was also known for his direct opposition to authorities, including an attack on a federal security secretary in 2020.
