Mort du baron de la drogue "El Mencho" : le Mexique plonge dans le chaos 23.02.2026

On Sunday, February 22nd, Mexico experienced widespread violence following the elimination of "El Mencho," the leader of a major drug cartel, by the Mexican army. His supporters retaliated by blocking roads and attacking infrastructure, with armed individuals setting fire to gas stations in Guadalajara and engaging in shootouts with security forces near a supermarket and the popular resort town of Puerto Vallarta. The chaos extended to Guadalajara's airport, where planes were targeted and passengers fled. French expatriates in Guadalajara were advised to shelter in place due to the unrest. The operation against "El Mencho," who was wanted by both Mexico and the United States with a $15 million bounty, was reportedly aided by U.S. intelligence, and 2,500 additional soldiers have been deployed.
