Military allies, historic tall ships converge on New Jersey shores to launch America 250 celebrations 03.07.2026

An international fleet of approximately 20 tall ships, representing nations from Italy to India, arrived off the coast of Sandy Hook, New Jersey, on Friday to inaugurate the America 250 semiquincentennial celebrations. The historic gathering, which organizers have dubbed the Sail4th 250 tribute, coincides with the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War's end, a pivotal moment in American history that occurred near Sandy Hook. Governor Mikie Sherrill emphasized the event's significance as a symbol of global security alliances, highlighting that America fights alongside its friends and allies. The U.S. Coast Guard cutter Eagle, a square-rigged vessel acquired from Nazi Germany, will lead the official parade of ships, continuing a tradition observed during the 1976 bicentennial when millions gathered to witness a similar maritime display. Planning for this monumental event commenced in April 2020.
