The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Minerals, Mr Yahya Samamba, announced on June 25, 2026, that the government collected Sh1.36 trillion in mining revenue by June 23, 2026, representing 113.34% of the target of Sh1.2 trillion for the period from January 2025 to June 2026. Speaking during a working session with the Mining Commission and other ministry institutions, he attributed the success to enhanced collaboration among the ministry, the Mining Commission, and sector stakeholders. He noted that 40% of the revenue came from small-scale miners, and the government has set a new target of Sh1.4 trillion for the 2026/27 financial year.
