Minister Gayton McKenzie has addressed delays in declaring additional national heritage sites at District Six, stating that no fixed date has been set for the process. In response to parliamentary questions from ActionSA MP Dereleen James, McKenzie explained that eight sites within District Six were formally gazetted as national heritage sites on March 31, 2023. These include the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Moravian Church, Zeenatul-Islam Masjid, Al Azhar Mosque, Trafalgar High School, Harold Cressy High School, and the Jewish Cemetery. However, further declarations are stalled because the District Six Museum has not yet submitted required nomination forms to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), which have been pending since March 2023.
