Iraqi Minister of Water Resources, Muthanna al-Tamimi, held an official meeting on Tuesday, July 7, 2027, with the Ambassador of the European Union mission to Iraq, Clemens Seimert, and his accompanying delegation. The meeting addressed ways to enhance mechanisms for cooperation and joint coordination to develop the water resources management sector in Iraq. Discussions focused on addressing the increasing challenges resulting from water scarcity and the repercussions of climate change directly affecting the country. Both sides also reviewed existing cooperation frameworks and ways to expand them, focusing on improving resource management, rationalizing consumption, and supporting modern irrigation projects by leveraging advanced European expertise. The two parties emphasized the necessity of activating the provisions of the partnership agreement between Iraq and the European Union in the irrigation field to support the Ministry's plans for modernizing water infrastructure, ensuring the enhancement of Iraq's ability to adapt and achieve water security and sustainable development.
