Ministry of Agriculture: €168m for water issues and €454m in investments for rural support 05.07.2026

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Dr. Maria Panagiotou, announced a €168 million package to address water issues and €454 million for the implementation of the CAP Strategic Plan. The objective is to strengthen the rural areas, retain new farmers, and address challenges such as climate change and water scarcity. The water package focuses on new infrastructure, desalination, and the modernization of networks, aiming for full coverage of drinking water needs through desalination, so that dams are reserved exclusively for irrigation. Concurrently, there has been a significant response to recent calls for investment measures, with over 1,225 applications already submitted. The government is emphasizing the sustainability of the primary sector and is preparing the new CAP Strategic Plan for 2028, strengthening food security and regional development.
