Mirjam Bikker (CU) wants to move The Hague out of campaign mode: ‘Forge a broad agreement, and release the energy again’ 07.07.2026

ChristenUnie parliamentary leader Mirjam Bikker is calling for radical reforms to increase political stability in The Hague and end the "campaign mode." Bikker proposes fixing the term of the House of Representatives at four years and restoring the role of the King in government formation to prevent political vacuums. Additionally, she seeks to improve the transparency of the distribution of residual seats and restore list connections (lijstverbindingen) between parties to increase representativeness. Bikker criticizes the current political culture, in which cabinets often turn directly to the voter when faced with problems instead of seeking solutions within the House. She warns against the impact of frequent elections on democracy and governability. Finally, she calls for the forging of broad agreements, emphasizing that budget cuts must not disproportionately affect vulnerable groups and families.
