Missing Link: Gasversorgung – Zwischen echten Problemen und Panikmache 15.02.2026

Germany's gas supply is facing scrutiny due to rapidly emptying storage facilities, exacerbated by a cold winter and frozen Baltic Sea hindering LNG tanker access to the Mukran terminal on Rügen. The LNG tanker "Maran Gas Nice" was delayed for weeks, impacting supply chains that now rely on imports from countries like Qatar and the US, replacing Russian gas. Despite public concern and media reports of panic, the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy states there is no immediate need for state intervention, citing reliable pipeline and LNG imports and the potential use of neighboring countries' capacities. However, low storage levels, particularly in Bavaria, and the market's reduced incentive for storage are real issues, prompting discussions about future strategies like a strategic reserve, though concerns about price increases and the need for European-wide solutions persist.
