Mississippi tornadoes cause widespread devastation, damage to homes 07.05.2026

Multiple tornadoes struck central and western Mississippi on the night of May 6, causing widespread devastation, damaging at least hundreds of homes, and downing trees and power lines. Governor Tate Reeves reported 17 injuries by the morning of May 7, with no fatalities confirmed. Thousands of residents were left without power as the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency began damage assessments and deployed resources for debris removal. Tornado warnings, including a tornado emergency for several towns, were issued for counties including Lamar, Marion, Lincoln, and Franklin, with some storms being "rain-wrapped" and more dangerous due to reduced visibility. The National Weather Service is conducting storm surveys across seven affected counties.
