During the Four-Man Bobsleigh competition at the Olympic Winter Games in Cortina, the Austrian team, piloted by Jakob Mandlbauer, experienced a dramatic crash in their second run. The bobsleigh tipped over and slid at high speed down the ice track, causing a nearly 20-minute interruption to the event. While Mandlbauer's teammates were able to exit the sled, Mandlbauer remained on the track and required medical attention before being transported to the hospital. He was reportedly conscious and complaining of neck pain, with his teammates also undergoing medical checks. This incident marked the first crash of the Games in the sport, and subsequent crashes involving teams from France and Trinidad and Tobago also occurred.
