Mitch McConnell, still hospitalized, spoke with GOP colleagues 07.07.2026

As health concerns persist, 84-year-old Senator Mitch McConnell has been making lengthy phone calls to Republican colleagues from his hospital bed. On July 7, McConnell spoke with Wyoming Senator John Barrasso for approximately 20 minutes regarding Senate work, Supreme Court news, and the Maine Senate race. Additionally, Senate Majority Leader John Thune engaged in a substantive discussion with the Kentucky lawmaker concerning national security. These communications aim to address mounting speculation regarding his condition following reports of an emergency dispatch call to his Washington, D.C., residence on June 14. While an initial dispatch indicated an unconscious individual and a subsequent call mentioned cardiac arrest, McConnell's office has not confirmed if these calls involved him. His spokesperson, David Popp, stated that the Senator is improving and remains engaged with Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is currently out of session.
