Teacher who lied about Cambridge degree banned 20h ago

Nicholas Martin, a 43-year-old former private school teacher at St Edward's School in Cheltenham, has been banned from teaching by the Teaching Regulatory Authority after fabricating credentials. Martin, who was promoted to head of sixth form in 2024, was found to have lied about holding a Cambridge University degree and serving as a magistrate. Investigations began when discrepancies in his age were noted on a 2025 deputy head application, revealing he had provided different birth dates. Further scrutiny exposed the falsity of his Cambridge degree claim, though he did hold a master's from Lancaster University. Despite being described as a "good teacher," the panel deemed his dishonest conduct a significant breach of professional standards, necessitating a prohibition order to maintain public confidence in the teaching profession.
