The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has warned of the consequences of an anticipated intense El Niño and is calling for enhanced preparations. The climate phenomenon, which occurs every two to seven years, is expected by the WMO to be classified as "very strong." WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo emphasized that El Niño increases the likelihood of drought, heavy rainfall, and heatwaves in many regions around the world. Particularly vulnerable groups, agriculture, and healthcare facilities need better protection.
