More members of executive implicated in Department of Social Development fallout 03.06.2026

Two independent reports presented to Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Social Development have implicated Public Service Minister Mzamo Buthelezi and Deputy Social Development Minister Ganief Hendricks in alleged misconduct related to irregular appointments and contract extensions within the Department of Social Development (DSD). These reports, one from the Public Service Commission (PSC) and another by Mketsu & Associates, follow the dismissal of former minister Sisisi Tolashe. The Mketsu report questions the five-year contract awarded to former director-general Peter Netshipale, suggesting collusion between the DSD and the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) and refuting Tolashe's "clerical error" defense. It also finds Buthelezi's denial of involvement in the contract unsustainable. The PSC report details the irregular appointment of 22-year-old Lesedi Mabiletja as chief of staff, finding she committed fraud and that Deputy Minister Hendricks was aware of her not meeting the post's requirements.
