Mort de Quentin Deranque à Lyon : « Ce climat de tension, d’intolérance m’inquiète », explique Michel Barnier 19.02.2026

Former Prime Minister Michel Barnier expressed deep concern over the escalating tension and intolerance within French politics, particularly highlighting a "quasi-insurrectionnel" atmosphere in the National Assembly between far-left and far-right parliamentarians. This sentiment was amplified by the recent murder of nationalist activist Quentin Deranque in Lyon, an event Barnier condemned, stating no one should die for their political opinions at 23. Barnier also called for the resignation of LFI deputy Raphaël Arnault, whose collaborators were questioned after Deranque's death, citing Arnault's links to the radical far-left group Jeune Garde and his own past conviction for violence. Barnier emphasized his commitment to unifying the republican right and center for the 2027 presidential election, advocating for an early candidate selection.
