Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho," the 59-year-old leader of the powerful Jalisco Nueva Generacion cartel, was killed by the Mexican army on Sunday, February 22. His death, detailed by Mexican authorities on Monday, February 23, was reportedly facilitated by intelligence gathered on a girlfriend he was meeting in Tapalpa, Jalisco. U.S. intelligence provided crucial additional information to confirm his location. Following the girlfriend's departure, special forces launched an operation, leading to El Mencho's capture in the bushes after an attempted escape. He sustained fatal injuries and died en route to Mexico City. The operation resulted in eight deaths and three injured soldiers, triggering widespread chaos and reprisals across Mexico, including burned vehicles and blocked roads.
